Rest Easy Little Man
On March 7th, 1996, we went to a friend's house to check out a litter of puppies his cocker spaniel had delivered 2 1/2 weeks earlier. Our only intentions were to see some cute little pups. While their daschund father watched, the runt of the litter struggled to fight with his brothers and sisters for his mother's milk. Of course we ended up taking that little fella home that day and called him Gator. And for the past 19+ years, Gator has been by our side, protecting our household and giving us a companion like none other. Today, regrettably, father time caught up with him. He has ascended to be with his older brother, Buddy, with whom he shared his love and kinship with for more than 13 years.
We are completely heartbroken. Although we've been preparing for this day for quite some time, nothing will lessen the pain but time.
What seems to help the most is when we can look back at all the amazing adventures we've had together. Here are some stories that some of you may not know...
Gator once fought a Doberman Pinscher! He didn't like the way the Doberman barked at us and actually went after him!
He once jumped out of a small window in the back of our truck that had a cap on it...while we were driving! We were headed to a park to walk and about half way there we noticed he wasn't in the back . We sped back home and found him sitting on the porch barking as people walked by! We had lived in that home for all of 2 weeks!
He once jumped into a dirty lake to chase some ducks. He had never swam before but he swam like a boss! But he wouldn't come back. He just kept swimming after the ducks. So Chris had to jump in the nasty water to get him before he tired out!
He once faked sickness so we wouldn't drop him at a kennel and instead take him on vacation with us. We decided we couldn't put him in the kennel because he was barely walking the whole day before we were to go. So we decided to take him with us and as soon as we were loading him in the car, he JUMPED in and wagged his tail like crazy during the drive!
He visited Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Liechtenstein and Italy. He even had his own passport!
He protected Adelina every day for 19+ years. Their bond was something you've never' witnessed before. What an amazing dog. What an amazing life.
But luckily, time does heal all wounds and so does Sparty! Think about how Gator has been a small part of your life as well and just think how lucky we were to call him a member of our family. We'd love to hear some stories.
This photo was taken when we were on vacation in Geneva, Switzerland. His background is the Brunswick monument mausoleum.
